BEFORE THE CRASH

  • Seems to have some kind of special power (makes his thoughts reality, might be probability manipulation)
  • Mother moved him to Australia when he was a toddler.
  • Mother died and step-father did not want him.
  • Killed a bird (accidentally) through force of will (while studying a book on birds, kept shouting at his step-father "You're not looking!", causing a bird outside to smash into the door).
  • Father, Michael, stole his dog, Vincent, so that Walt could keep it.

ON THE ISLAND

  • Burned the first raft.
  • Helped to build the second raft.
  • Was kidnapped by those we believe to be The Others.
  • Appears to Shannon in the jungle after being kidnapped, completely wet and saying "Don't push the button" backwards. Although some theorize that what he said backwards was "Push the button. No button is bad." After that he disappears. (Sounds more like "press the button, the button's bad." But the inflection at the beginning almost sounds like "press" wasn't the first word, causing us to infer the word "Don't" before it.)
  • The second time he appears to Shannon, he says "They are coming and they're close.", Sayid also sees him this time
  • Is somehow connected to the Polar Bears. He got a stuffed one as a little kid from Michael, he saw one in the Spanish comic book and he was attacked by one while being alone in the jungle.

THEORIES

  • He was kidnapped because he was meant to be on the section of the "Accelerated Remote Viewing Training". His ability couldn't improve at "The Swan Section" so he had to leave. Flight 815 was just his convenient ride to the area. His appearence to Shannon will be one of his accomplishments at the training facility.
  • It may not be that he killed the bird, so much as summoned it. In "real life" birds often die flying into plate glass windows. This may hold for the Polar Bears on the island as well. He is likely not responsible for them being there, but was able to call out to them because they were there.
  • In addition to possible animal empathy, Walt has exhibited the ability to manipulate probabilities. This is exhibited by the fact that when playing Backgammon he always gets the exact rolls he needs. This may be further exhibited during an argument with Michael when Vincent is still missing. Michael says (need exact quote) "I'll go find Vincent after it stops raining." Walt says (again need exact quote), "Really?" and two seconds later it stops raining. As if he willed it so - perhaps changing the probability of precipitation to something lower than 100%.
  • Another point on probability manipulation. Locke was teaching Walt how to throw a knife. Locke tells him to visualize the knife hitting the target, he does and bullseye. By visualizing he manipulated his chance of hitting the target perfectly to 100%.
